British Grown Cut Flowers

Chiltern Sky Flowers is an artisan flower farm, six hundred feet up in the beautiful Chiltern Hills.  We are a family run business, just the two of us, Fiona and Chris and our journey of growing cut flowers started with a small seed of an idea back in 2018. We fell in love with the natural beauty and simplicity of British grown cut flowers, inspired by the British Flowers Movement and their informal, garden-gathered style of floristry. Further research led us to the very supportive group, Flowers From The Farm, and we are pleased to say, we have never looked back. Flowers from the Farm is an award-winning membership association for cut flower growers in the UK and we are very proud to have been members since 2018.

We offer a wonderful mix of flowers and foliage available from mid April all the way through to the end of October. Sustainable, seasonal and scented are the three key choices when it comes to which flowers we decide to grow each year. Our aim is to work with the seasons and to grow strong, healthy, high quality blooms, no matter what the infamous British weather can throw at us. We are both thriving on spending our time outside in the fresh air, surrounded by bees and butterflies and enjoying new connections with our local community.  Thank you for supporting us.

Seasonality

  • Seasonally grown flowers, grown from seed, inspired by the simplicity and beauty of Nature.

  • Our variety of flowers is different every year, but some of our favourites are listed below:

  • Spring: Our season opens in April with our range of colourful and scented Narcissi and Tulips, followed by Alliums, Camassias, Geums, Nepeta, Sweet Williams and much more.

  • Summer: We have an abundance of flowers from May to August, including: Achillea, Ammi, Cornflowers, Comos, Dahlias, Daucus, Grasses, Herbs, Nicotiana, Nigella, Phlox, Snapdragons, Scabious, Strawflowers and not forgetting fragrant Sweet peas.

  • Autumn: As the days turn shorter and cooler, our Dahlias take centre stage, combining well with Ammi, Amaranthus, Anemones, Asters, Atriplex, Chrysanthemums, Cosmos, Grasses, Helianthus, Rudbeckias, Seed pods, Strawflowers, Verbena and Zinnias.

  • Winter: At the other end of nature’s calendar, our flower farm starts to slow down with the first frosts.  Ornamental grasses, berries and rose hips become available along with the flowers and seed pods we harvest for drying throughout the Summer - beautiful additions to Christmas wreaths and dried floral arrangements.

Sustainability

  • We are passionate about conserving our ecological environment here in The Chiltern Hills. Our chalk grassland and meadows are rich habitats for wildflowers and wildlife. Owls, Bats, Red Kites, Grass Snakes, Bees, Moths and Butterflies are some of our flower farming companions.

  • Our flowers are grown with the seasons, working with Mother Nature, rather than against her.

  • Our flower beds are constructed using the ‘No dig’ method, preserving soil health and soil conservation.

  • We have switched over to using peat free compost.

  • We are committed to reducing our single use plastic. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

  • We are harvesting rainwater from our cottage roof, storing it in deep, brick built Victorian wells. We harvest rainwater from as many sources as we can.

  • We are keen to use resources from our local community as often as we can, whether it’s the delicious cake from our local cafe for Workshops, our local compost company, or our local landscapers. We regularly host visits from our village primary school, Year 2s and Year 3s and are hugely impressed with the younger generation’s knowledge of climate change and our collective responsibility to our planet.
